Along with tech and manga stores we found the arcades of Akihabara very sugoi! I probably spent 2,000 Yen (almost $20) just on arcade games. We played driving games, shooters, arcade fighting games and some that I don’t even know how to classify. This was a game that we stumbled upon and got a real kick out of…

Michael Jackson’s moonwalker was a Sega Genesis game in America.  Many kids grew up loving it and never knowing that there was an arcade version.  The user plays as MJ.  The game play has 4 directional movement + jump.  It has punch and kick attacks as well as two special attacks:  a hat throw and a dance trance.  In the dance trance, enemies are sucked into doing a choreographed dance along side Michael and at the end they either die or take heavy damage.  The dance is set to music and depends on the level the gamer is on.

  1. You need to understand sir, shortly after you’d left my sight; I quickly began to expend countless amounts of coins for this wonderful game. It’s amazing that Japan has some of the most badass arcade games around, even games that are very difficult to translate to an arcade setting are guaranteed to make an appearance; this was most notably seen in the Arcade version on Half Life, a primarily singleplayer game, thrown into a co-op time attack frenzy.

  2. I did not see that game there. That game was awesome. It was one of those games that only cost 25 cents but you’d spend most of you money on that one game. I especially like the part when you find bubbles and you turn into a Michael Jackson mech.

  3. If there is a game I would like to see remade on a modern console, Michael Jacksons Moonwalker is easily in the top three. Only other two that compare for the place of number one are Shaq Fu (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8c-1OlpkHU) and Toejam & Earl (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0eJK8Lflkvc). Does TJ&E music remind anyone else of Sinfeld?
